In 1986, his father Morley passed away and Michael took over ownership and management of the family business with his brother Douglas. Over the next 30+ years, Michael ran and successfully set up the transfer of the business to his sons for a rare fourth generation owned and operated family business. The Foster family now approaches its 100th anniversary in the industry dating back to 1924.
Michael has committed his entire life to the sports flooring industry working for over 50 years with MFMA member mills and their products. Very importantly, he is known as a man of very high integrity with a strong commitment to his faith, family, and the industry in which he has served for over five decades. Michael has spent a major portion of his career making contributions to the betterment of the entire sports flooring industry. He was an early adopter in promoting safety and human bio-mechanic performance for the health and wellbeing of all participants regardless of activity and age.
Michael became a member of the MFMA in 1986. During the early years of being an MFMA member, Michael was elected President of the WSFI (Wood and Synthetic Flooring Institute) in 1991 and served an unprecedented three consecutive terms in that role. In 2006, Michael was appointed to serve on the MFMA Sport Floor Contractors' Advisory Council and was designated as the contractor liaison to the MFMA Technical Committee. In 2013, Michael became the first contractor to sit on MFMA’s Board of Directors representing all contractor members. During his tenure on the Advisory Council, he made contributions to multiple committees and the Board of Directors to assist MFMA in meeting the needs and desires of athletes, contractors, and mills.
Michael’s open honesty, perseverance and gentlemanly approach should be a lesson to all.
