Standard used to classify wood flooring based on the variations in the wood. The five MFMA grades are First, Second and Better, Third and Better, Third, and Utility.

  • First Grade: The highest standard MFMA grade is hand selected to minimize the natural character variations of the species.
  • Second and Better Grade: The predominant grade specified, this grade exhibits more natural variations than first grade.
  • Third and Better: This grade provides the visual variations of third grade combined with the aesthetics of second and better grade.
  • Third Grade: This grade has the same structural integrity as all other grades and exhibits a contrasting natural appearance.
  • Utility Grade: This grade may contain all defects common to maple, but the wood must be firm and serviceable. Individual segments have minimum length requirements.
