What is the rule of thumb for sizing expansion gaps around the perimeter of a wood sports floor system? Is there a reliable relationship between expansions across the grain vs along the length of grain?

For a floating or anchored resilient floor system the rule is 2" at the perimeter.  Anchored systems do not require perimeter spacing but a minimal amount is usually provided. The majority of the expansion is across the grain with minimal expansion experienced along the length of the grain.
