Class of 2012

Bruce Stalker

Bruce grew up in Lake Zurich IL, the son of Wallace and Nancy Stalker. Bruce received a Baseball Scholarship to the University of Illinois in Champaign and graduated with a degree in marketing and business management. After college he was drafted by the Cardinals, but declined the offer because there was no "money" in Baseball.

In 1958, he married Kay Stalker and together they started a family. Bruce took a salesman position with Midland Laboratories and started presenting maintenance seminars to school personnel on gym floor care that included screening, recoating, sanding finishing and repairing damaged areas. He discovered a niche market in maintaining athletic wood floors and local schools began to request he do the maintenance for them. In 1961 he opened Stalker and Sons Sanding in New London WI. Later in 1991, Bruce and Kay incorporated the business and became Stalker Flooring Inc.

In 1991, Stalker partnered with Superior Floors and started installing maple gym floors systems. Stalker Flooring installed Superior Floors first ScissorLoc™ Air Flow System and has gone on to install over 1.5 million square feet of the ScissorLoc™ Floor System.

Stalker was quick to adapt and come up with new ideas in flooring installation, sanding, lining and floor finishing. The Double Rider, the Easy Way Coating Machine, water-based finishes and many other updates were a part of Bruce's growing business. Bruce became a resource for the Midwest in his ability to problem solve on troubled floors. This legacy still lives at Stalker Flooring who is still considered the "go to company" for solutions on gym floors.

Bruce was an avid golfer, and when he was not on the golf course or playing with his grandchildren, Bruce could be found in his workshop fixing or adapting his machinery. Kay Stalker is now sole owner of Stalker Flooring Inc. which she runs with the help of three of their five children and four of their grandchildren.
